Bats in Ireland – a Virtual Exploration of Bats likely to Visit your Garden

May 18, 2021 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm

This online, virtual experience will be delivered by bat expert Dr Tina Aughney as a combination of Zoom presentation and videos of bats in her garden in Co. Cavan.  Tina will go through bats that

are likely to be attracted to your garden; hedgerows, plants and flowers that are likely to encourage bat activity; and trees, bat boxes, eaves and crevices in the surrounds of your garden that are likely to host/encourage bat roosts.

Tina has over 15 years’ experience in running bat conservation monitoring programmes and personally has developed a biodiversity haven in her own garden.  She is committed to preserving native Irish plants and shrubs, which when under threat from development projects, find a new home in her back garden.  Her COVID-19 project in 2020 was to install a pond in her back garden, which is a great way to encourage bats in your back garden through insect predation.

This virtual experience is a free event and it will take place on 18th May 2021, during Biodiversity Week.  It will be open to the public across Ireland to attend, as long as they register and, as it is an online experience, it will be compliant with COVID-19 restrictions.
