Cancelled – Bat Health, Rehab & Pathology Symposium, 28th & 29th March 2020

Unfortunately, due to the current Corona Virus uncertainty, this event has now been cancelled and will be rescheduled for next year.  Anyone who has booked already, will be notified individually.  You can register your interest for attending the rescheduled workshop by e-mailing: kildarebatgroup@gmail.com.

This course, organised by Kildare Bat Group, runs over a day and a half and looks at bat health, rehab and pathology.  It has been accredited by the Veterinary Council Education and Training Committee for 12.5 points.

Course content: 

Bat species Identification – Dr. Tina Aughney, Bat Conservation Ireland;

Bats and the Law – Enda Mullen, National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS);

Bat Rehab Workshop Karen Healy, Northern Ireland Bat Group;

Bat Disease Surveillance and Investigation – Alex Barlow, MRCVS Pathologist;

Bat1K and Protocol – Prof. Emma Teeling, UCD;

Governance, Rehab Activities and the proposed new Wild life Hospital – June Stanley, Wildlife Rehabilitation Ireland;

Rabies and vaccinations – Dr. Seamus O’Dea, Senior Medical Officer

Questions and Answers on bat casualty examinations, conditions and treatment, will be fielded by David Couper, MRCVS, Senior Veterinary Clinician 

This course is open to those involved in rehab, ecologists and veterinary nurses and surgeons.

Booking is essential to secure places as numbers are limited.

Please bring mammal gloves.

Fees:

Rehab personnel – €150

Veterinary nurse/Ecologist – €200

Veterinary Surgeons – €250

Accommodation at the Westgrove Hotel must be booked separately.  There is a special rate for attendees of the workshop – please mention “Bat workshop” to avail of the special B&B, plus dinner rate.

If you are just staying for dinner, the rate is €28, which is payable at reception beforehand.  Please ask to join the bat table for Saturday evening. Dinner will be at 7.30 pm.
