Irish bats are often associated with woodlands and most species evolved to roost in crevices in trees.
Bats can use woodland all year round, tree roosts can be used in summer for raising young, in autumn for mating and in winter for hibernating. At night bats may commute through woodlands on their way to foraging grounds or may use woodlands for foraging in.
