Bat Conservation Ireland runs various monitoring schemes and surveys with the help of hundreds of volunteers across the island. To do these requires varying levels of skill – from little or none – to a lot. They are all lots of fun and will introduce you to a completely new perspective on Ireland’s night time wildlife. We always provide training and equipment is usually supplied by us, depending on the project. For details of upcoming training in your locality see the Events page.
From time to time we also need help running our committee, with representation at information stands at fairs etc.
Please do get in touch with us if you are looking to help, we’d love to hear from you.
Sign Up to Become a Temporary Volunteer Member
In order to ensure that we provide the best possible support for our volunteers we have created a sub-category of membership entitled Temporary Volunteer Member.
Temporary Volunteer Membership entitles you to insurance cover while conducting bat surveys on behalf of Bat Conservation Ireland. This insurance covers volunteers with Public Liability insurance and Personal Injury insurance for the duration of the specific survey only. Fully paid members are automatically covered under Bat Conservation Ireland insurance for the work they do on behalf of the organisation for the duration of their membership and do not need to apply for Temporary Volunteer Membership. Paid members should be aware, however, that persons assisting them on bat surveys carried out on behalf of Bat Conservation Ireland should be registered on this list.
To become a Temporary Volunteer Member of Bat Conservation Ireland all you need to do is provide your name, address and contact details below. Bat Conservation Ireland will store this information on a secure server and will not share your contact details with any third party.
This membership duration is from: May 16th of the year in which you apply, or if you apply after this date then your membership begins on the date you fill in the form. You membership is valid until September 30th of the same year.
What you are not covered for
As a Temporary Volunteer Member you will not receive a membership pack, you will not receive the Bat Conservation Ireland pdf publication (The Natterer) and you are not insured to hold events on behalf of Bat Conservation Ireland. You will not receive notice of Annual General Meetings since these are held in March or April each year and you will not be entitled to vote at Annual General Meetings. If you wish to avail of any of the above, please subscribe for fee-paying membership which is available from €10-15 per annum on this website.
Any person who does not register on this list as a Temporary Volunteer Member AND is not a fee-paying member is accepting that he/she carries out bat surveys on behalf of Bat Conservation Ireland with no insurance cover.
